We had such a fun filled day! We started with a special All School Meeting for Nurse Whiting's retirement celebration! Then all K classrooms did a Halloween costume parade around PRS. Finally we enjoyed Halloween Motor Centers back in the classroom.
Pumpkin InvestigationWe had 5 wonderful parents join us to explore pumpkins. We talked about their size, shape, the number of lines, how many cubes tall and of course counted the seeds after we scooped up out all the goop! They had fun choosing a face by talking about different shapes. Once we were finished we added lights and put them in the window for the Boo Bash!! What a fun day! Pumpkin STEAMSTEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math We had so much fun this week with so many different STEAM activities. The students learned to work together to create a plan, collaborate together to build many different things during all of our STEAM Centers. First, we built a gate to hold five little pumpkins. Then, we used tooth picks and gummy pumpkins to build 2D shapes. Finally, we built towers out of different numbers of pumpkins and playdoh, We had so much fun problem solving while creating and learned so much from each other. Whale Conservation VisitWe had such a great visit from Whale and Dolphin Conservation. We met Delilah, a life-sized inflatable North Atlantic right whale! We got to go inside and talk about how she breaths air like us. We also learned how each whale had a different pattern on their tails, like our finger prints. Finally, we talked about how right whales are Baleen whales. We even got to touch some baleen. South Coastal Animal HospitalDr. Richer came to visit and talked to us about animal health. After a presentation about how animals are cared for, students were broken into 3 small groups to explore different veterinarian tools, while taking care of our pretend sick class puppy! We used stethoscopes, and pretended to draw and test blood samples! After putting on masks and gloves, we pretended to do surgery and finally, we practiced wrapping up our puppy’s wound! Students have enjoyed practicing their new skills in our classroom vet center!! After our lesson about whales, we went back to the classroom and did a directed drawing of a whale. Not all are finished so I will add them once they are done! Reptile showBig BuddiesToday we met with our 5th Grade Buddies from Ms. Wragg's class. We enjoyed learning about one another and reading fall stories together. We can't wait to have more visits with them. Math CentersThis week we continued to practice our shapes and colors and practicing our counting skills by playing Roll and Record independently using 2 dice. Number boards was another way practiced our counting while building our fine motor skills using small stickers. Everyone enjoyed playing Top It using cards and hope teach family members to play at home. Motor CentersOn Friday, Ms. Pratt, out Occupational Therapist joined us for Motor Centers. She set up fun fine and gross motor activities for us. Each Day 4 we we she will bring new activities.. This week we had blocks that linked together to make different letters. Students loved spelling their names. Another activity, students laid on their bellies while trying to get their frog onto it's lily pad. At our parent center, students played Fruit Avalanche where students had to stack pieces of fruit using a tweezer with out the fruit falling. Mrs. Pratt had students used a hippity hop while zig zagging through cones. READINGThis week we started Unit 1 in our Journey's reading program. Students enjoyed read two stories. one small paper back and the other from the iPad. We are focusing on pointing to words as we read them and using picture clues to help us words. MATHIn math we continue to look at numbers in different ways as well as talking about shapes and patterns. Today we used different math vocabulary to describe shapes (line, straight, side, curve, angle, comer, point).
