Lots of counting going on in Km this week using 10 Frames and dominoes. We also learned a new iPad game Line em Up which us us with number order. I literacy we learned two new sight words from and your and continue to enjoy learning about parts of a community. This week in Motor Centers we worked on "c curve" letters, ABC Yoga poses, language BINGO and shape matching using tweezers.

Today we met our Third Grade Buddies from Mrs. Falvey's class. We read a Thanksgiving story and made bracelets together. We look forward to meeting up with them again soon.
Pumpkin InvestigationWe enjoyed listening to How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin? before we began exploring the 4 pumpkins Mrs. Rubino brought in for us! First, we measured how many cubes tall our pumpkin was. some did the top of the pumpkin and other did to the top of the stem. We counted the lines. After cleaning out all the insides we counted seeds and made an estimate on how many seeds. We worked as a team to pick shapes for the eyes nose and mouth! They did a great job! Halloween ActivitiesWe had a great day playing Halloween games in the morning and Motor Centers in the afternoon! Visit to Central Fire StationVisit from South Coast Animal HospitalDr Richer and Ms Casey visited us and told us about all the different ways veterinarians take care of animals. We got to practice with some cute stuffed animals but listening to their hearts, drawing blood, doing surgery and wrapping injuries. Thank you to the PTO for organizing and our parent volunteer for joining us! We changed our Housekeeping area into an Animal Hospital this week and everyone is enjoying taking care of our animals. We look forward to having it open for the next few weeks. Directed Drawing DogHalloween ParadeWe had so much fun showing off our awesome costumes to ALL of PRS today! Reptile ShowWe kicked off the week with a visit from some reptile friends! Pumpkin STEAMSTEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math We had so much fun this week with so many different STEAM activities. The students learned to work together to create a plan, collaborate together to build many different things during all of our STEAM Centers. First, we built towers out of different numbers of pumpkins and playdoh, Then, we used tooth picks and gummy pumpkins to build 2D shapes. Finally, we built a gate to hold five little pumpkins. We had so much fun problem solving while creating and learned so much from each other. Pumpkin Directed DrawingsDr MooreWe had a great visit from Dr Moore who talked about what different doctors do. We met Skeletony and learned about the humorous, femur and skull, the three largest bones in the body. Finally, students suited up in gowns and gloves and took care of their teachers! LiteracyWe just started a new Unit There is only Me. This week we talked about how we are all different and focused on how our names are special. We worked on writing our names, practicing our new heart word as, and reading and writing. Social EmotionalThis week we talked about Empathy!
LiteracyThe students learned about the difference between fiction and non fictional stories. We also discussed the importance of informational text. In centers this we focused on the parts of a book and using our pointer finger to touch the words as we read together. The students then re read the story independently by using whisper phones which they loved! In handwriting, we continued our journal work and are finishing our upper case letter formation practice. MathIn math we practicing counting and number writing as well as adding 1 more- early addition. Students loved reviewing and sorting shapes by using different attributes. Author VisitWe had an amazing visit from author Laura Duksta. Her message of self love and self expression was very touching. Students and staff really enjoyed her presentation. Thank you to the PTO for organizing. Social EmotionalThis week we learned about the Listening tool and what it means to be a good listener. Students are enjoying Mrs. St Lawrence's and using the tools through out the day. Motor CentersWe had our first Motor Centers this week. Each Week Ms. Pratt (Occupational Therapist) and Ms. Cunio (Speech Therapist) will join us for fine motor, gross motor and language based activities. The students loved it!
Holly Hill FarmToday we met Farmer Zack in the PRS Garden and talked about the different things growing in there- pumpkins, corn, green beans, kale and garlic to name a few. We got hold a green bean seed and see some funny colored corn. Finally we talked about sunflowers and were each given a sunflower seed to bring home. We are drying a sunflower in our classroom to use it's seeds in the spring to grown more sunflowers. Social EmotionalThis week we learned our Quiet Safe Tool. We talked about places we feel safe. MathWe had so much fun rotating through 4 different math centers this week. We enjoyed counting to 10 using stickers, playing Domino Parking Lot, number writing and dot memory. To end the week we read The Greedy Triangle. We talked about how ALL triangles have 3 sides and 3 angles. LiteracyLots of time practicing rhyming and syllables this week. Also, using one of our sight words "the" in our journals! They are learning so much!
APPLE DAYWe enjoyed celebrating Johnny Appleseed on Friday by exploring apples! We talked about how apples grow, parts of an apple and enjoyed apple centers with different math and literacy activities. MathWe had a great time exploring numbers this week and making numbers in different ways- cubes, fingers, dice, 5 frames and tally marks to name a few. Exploring shape patters with our pattern blocks was so much fun and we even used special stickers so we could bring our patterns home. We learned some new games like roll and record. as all as a fun Apple number game. iPadsThis week we introduced iPads. First we did Touch and Write to practice our number writing. We will also use this app to practice letters and sight words. We also introduced Lexia, which gives students independent phonics and basic reading practice. HandwritingThis week we continue to practice our uppercase letters while working on writing our first names. Electrical Safety!Hingham Light Department came to talk to use about electrical safety!
